Lonnie Bedwell to Conquer Explorers Grand Slam

Lonnie Bedwell is a Navy veteran and father of three from Dugger, Indiana, whose life took an unexpected turn when a hunting accident left him blind in 1997. Lonnie spent years raising his daughters before eventually finding a new kind of challenge in kayaking, climbing, and exploration. Since then, he’s become the first blind person to kayak through the Grand Canyon and has taken on some of the highest and most remote places on Earth.

Now Lonnie is chasing something even bigger: the Explorer’s Grand Slam. It’s a challenge that combines reaching both the North and South Poles and climbing the highest mountain on each of the seven continents. Lonnie has already reached the South Pole and climbed all seven summits, leaving just one piece unfinished—the North Pole. His next expedition will take him into the Arctic, where he hopes to become the first blind person to complete the Grand Slam.

Lonnie works to inspire others to live their lives to the fullest, to overcome adversity, and redefine what’s possible. Read more about Lonnie at https://lonniebedwell.com/about-lonnie/
